Hi !

In this issue, you'll read:
THE BOOK OF 1st CORINTHIANS - PART THREE
THANK YOU FROM THE PRESIDING BISHOP AND FIRST LADY

A WORD FROM THE EDITOR - TWENTY EIGHTH EDITION

Welcome to the twenty eighth edition of the W.I.N. E-Mail Newsletter. We are a couple of days late in getting this edition out because I have been ill [see article at end of newsletter]. Nevertheless, I would like to share the following Scripture with you and pray that God will bless you as He has blessed me.

Revelation 22:1-5; "1And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. 4They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. 5And there shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever."

There is coming a day when sickness will have no more place and healing will be provided for the nations. I am longing for that day and looking forward to being in His presence. How about you?

Until next time...God bless you in all that you undertake!

In Jesus Name,
Rev. Sam T. Leigh

THE BOOK OF 1st CORINTHIANS - PART THREE

I. Devotional Reading

Each morning, find a quiet time and place and read a Scripture passage of your choice. Talk with the Lord as you read His Word. When you are finished, go back and select one or two verses and meditate thoughtfully and prayerfully on what He is speaking to you through His Word.

II. Bible Study

In this lesson, we will read the second section of Paul's first letter to the Corinthian church - chapters 7-10. Paul begins now to answer the specific questions they had written to him about. To understand their questions and Paul's answers it is important to remember the background of these Corinthian Christians. J. Sidlow Baxter describes it vividly in Explore the Book:

"It is only fair to remember that those Corinthian converts had been born and bred in surroundings which were about as vile and vicious as could be imagined. We can well imagine how staggered and sickened Paul must have been by this huge quagmire of refined voluptousness and gross sensualism; the filthy rituals of idolatry, and the soul-debasing 'religions' which made animal indulgence meritorious; the swaggering pride of (supposed) Greek 'wisdom,' and the utter corruption of it all. In all the Bible there is not a more awful description of human sin and degradation than the first chapter of Paul's
epistle to the Romans - and it was written from Corinth!"

In this section Paul deals with two specific questions the Corinthians had asked about in a previous letter to him:

Marriage and celibacy and the situations in which we find ourselves in life (chapter 7).
The eating of food offered to idols (chapter 8).

He goes on to give two examples:

The positive example from his own life (chapter 9).
The negative example from Israel's history (chapter 10).

Now, with this outline to help, pull up a comfortable chair and read 1 Corinthians chapters 7-10 through in one sitting. Repeat this several times between now and the next lesson.

III. Memory Verse

1 Corinthians 10:13; " No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Here are a few suggestions that may help you to memorize your memory verses:

1. Ask the Lord to help you remember his Word (see John 14:26).

2. Use the version of the Bible you are most familiar with. What you normally read in your Bible is what you need to be memorizing.

3. Don't just memorize the contents of the verse; memorize its "address" (the verse reference) as well. You can do this by following this pattern: Step 1: reference; Step 2: verse content; Step 3: reference. Then repeat steps 1-3. Note that you are quoting the reference twice as many times as you quote the actual verse content. This gives the verse a clear "reference tag."

4. After you have read your memory verse out aloud several times, try going through your memory verse without reading your computer screen.

5. Look up your memory verse in your Bible. Look at its immediate context and read the verses that come before and after your memory verse.

6. Print out your memory verse or jot it down on a piece of paper. Take this paper with you when you go to work or do other daily activities. Meditate on the meaning of the verse throughout the day.

7. During your noon appointment with the Lord, take out your memory verse and go over it again. Talk to the Lord about what this verse means to you personally.

8. In the evening (at either your evening study or your evening devotions), see if you can quote your memory verse from memory. Then, without looking at the memory verse itself, see if you can find it in your Bible.

9. The next day, before you begin committing a new verse to memory, rehearse your previous day's memory verse and see if you can remember it (without cheating!).

10. Finally, at the end of the week (possibly on Sunday), collect all your week's memory verses, rehearse them and see if you can recall them without reading them. Spend a little extra time on any verses you have difficulty recalling.

11. Remember: Don't just memorize a verse. Put it into practice (James 1:22). It is not being able to quote a verse from memory that counts. It is His Word abiding in your heart that counts (John 15:7). When you actually apply a verse consistently to your daily life; that is when you truly know that verse!

THANK YOU FROM THE PRESIDING BISHOP AND FIRST LADY

Some of you may not know that I was hospitalized on Thursday of last week and remained there until Monday of this week. Even though I should have stayed longer, the doctor let me go home because Sister Rosezetta had surgery on Monday for a torn rotator cuff and was sent home to recover. I did not want to stay in the hospital with her at home incapacitated, so I asked to be discharged and since my tests showed that my condition was improving, I was allowed to accompany her home.

Sister Rosezetta's surgery was a success and she is getting better daily and is now able to sleep several hours at a stretch. However, her arm must remain immobile for six to eight weeks and then she must have physical therapy for another three to four months to regain the strength and use of her arm. My condition is improving in some areas, but is being stubborn in others, so please continue to pray for me because I need to be well so that I can properly take care of Sister Rosezetta.

At this time, Sister Rosezetta and I would like to thank all of you who have been praying for us during our time of recovery. We have really been keeping the Intercessory Prayer Team busy. We would also like to thank Pastors Phill and Kris Hildreth of Freedom Covenant Church Northwest, as well as Sister Jennia Braswell [our FCGM Treasurer] for all of their help providing us with transportation, food, housekeeping, and running of errands.

There are also several of our ministers who have blessed us financially, some of them sacrificially. Although we do not think it appropriate to publish their names in this forum, Sister Rosezetta and I cannot find the words to express how much their love and concern for us has meant. They will never know just how much of a timely blessing these financial offerings have been in our present situation.

We do want everyone to know that God has truly blessed us with some wonderful caring people in FCGM and we are asking Him to bless each and every one of them with a bountiful supply of His Grace, Mercy, and Love for all of the kindness they have shown to us. May all of their needs be met before they even become a reality.

God bless you one and all!
Bishop Sam T. Leigh
First Lady Rosezetta Leigh
