Hi !

In this issue, you'll read:
THE BOOK OF 2nd CORINTHIANS - PART ONE
THANKS TO PASTOR ALBERT

A WORD FROM THE EDITOR - FORTIETH EDITION

Welcome to this edition of the W.I.N. E-Mail Newsletter. We are very excited to begin our study of 2 Corinthians in this issue. While to some, it may seem tedious, God's Word is so very important for us to study and meditate upon. It should be the guidebook in each of our lives.

Joshua 1:8; "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

As you can see from this Scripture [and many more will support it], to meditate in the Word of God and to follow God's commandments will make our lives prosperous and we will be a success. This is not the kind of success that the world strives for, but the success that is eternal. Enjoy the study and don't forget to pray each time you study and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth of God's Word to you and to help you apply it to your life.

Until next time...God bless each of you in all that you undertake!

In Jesus Name,
Rev. Sam T. Leigh

THE BOOK OF 2nd CORINTHIANS - PART ONE

I. Devotional Reading

Each morning, select a passage in God's Word. Talk with the Lord as you read the passage, then go back and find one or two verses which the Lord has impressed on your heart and meditate on them. And don't forget to pray and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance.

II. Bible Study

In this edition, we begin reading Paul's second letter to the Corinthians. J. Sidlow Baxter, in his epic work, Explore the Book, describes the nature of this letter:

"While others of Paul's epistles may be more profound, scarcely any could be more precious than this second heart-outpouring to the Corinthians. It was written with a quill dipped in tears, from the apostle's 'anguish of heart,' and contains more of human pathos than any other of his letters. Yet there is a lovely rainbow shining through it all, for in his dire distress and deep disappointments he is discovering more than ever before that 'the Father of mercies' is the 'God of all comfort,' and that the heavenly Master's strength is made perfect in His servant's weakness."

We know that Paul's first letter to the Corinthians was written just before the feast of Pentecost (in the springtime) from Ephesus, probably around A.D. 55. Shortly after writing 1 Corinthians, Paul had to flee Ephesus because of rioting instigated by the worshipers of the goddess Artemis (see Acts 19:23-41). From Ephesus, Paul went into Macedonia (Acts 20:1) and eventually stayed in Greece (where Corinth was situated) for three months (Acts 20:2-3). This would have been his second visit to Corinth.

But between leaving Ephesus and arriving in Corinth, Paul wrote his second letter to the Corinthians, promoted by circumstances quite distressing to him (note particularly 2 Corinthians 11:2-4, the key verses of the letter).

The book of 2 Corinthians divides into three main sections:

Section 1 - chapters 1-7
Section 2 - chapters 8-9
Section 3 - chapters 10-13

We will start by reading the first section, chapters 1-7, which focuses on the nature of Paul's heart for and ministry to the Corinthian Christians. Try to find a quiet time and read this section through in one session without stopping to explore. Try to repeat this several times so you become very familiar with the general content of this entire section. We will take time to look closer at this passage in coming editions.

III. Memory Verse

2 Corinthians 1:3-4; "3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

Here are a few suggestions that may help you to memorize your memory verses:

1. Ask the Lord to help you remember his Word (see John 14:26).

2. Use the version of the Bible you are most familiar with. What you normally read in your Bible is what you need to be memorizing.

3. Don't just memorize the contents of the verse; memorize its "address" (the verse reference) as well. You can do this by following this pattern: Step 1: reference; Step 2: verse content; Step 3: reference. Then repeat steps 1-3. Note that you are quoting the reference twice as many times as you quote the actual verse content. This gives the verse a clear "reference tag."

4. After you have read your memory verse out aloud several times, try going through your memory verse without reading your computer screen.

5. Look up your memory verse in your Bible. Look at its immediate context and read the verses that come before and after your memory verse.

6. Print out your memory verse or jot it down on a piece of paper. Take this paper with you when you go to work or do other daily activities. Meditate on the meaning of the verse throughout the day.

7. During your noon appointment with the Lord, take out your memory verse and go over it again. Talk to the Lord about what this verse means to you personally.

8. In the evening (at either your evening study or your evening devotions), see if you can quote your memory verse from memory. Then, without looking at the memory verse itself, see if you can find it in your Bible.

9. The next day, before you begin committing a new verse to memory, rehearse your previous day's memory verse and see if you can remember it (without cheating!).

10. Finally, at the end of the week (possibly on Sunday), collect all your week's memory verses, rehearse them and see if you can recall them without reading them. Spend a little extra time on any verses you have difficulty recalling.

11. Remember: Don't just memorize a verse. Put it into practice (James 1:22). It is not being able to quote a verse from memory that counts. It is His Word abiding in your heart that counts (John 15:7). When you actually apply a verse consistently to your daily life; that is when you truly know that verse!

THANKS TO PASTOR ALBERT

I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to Pastor Albert in Côte d'Ivoire. As most of you may remember, Pastor Albert founded Christ Generation Bible Institute a little over two years ago in order to train up a harvest of workers for the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus.

He started a two-year program with a class of 22 students who were eager to learn the Word of God and become prepared to preach and teach the Gospel. Circumstances caused the loss of two students and another one went to be with the Lord this past fall. That leaves a total of 19 students who completed the class work. Graduation has been set for June 5th for these students and they will each be receiving an Associate of Ministry degree from Christ Generation Bible Institute under the auspices of The Washington Bible Institute Distance Education program.

What most of you don't know is that to complete this commitment that he made to train these students, Pastor Albert was called upon to make some tremendous sacrifices. When it became necessary to choose between paying the bills at the school or keeping his house, Pastor Albert sacrificed his house and he and his wife had to live apart for a short time until God provided another house for them. His wife lived with relatives while Pastor Albert stayed at the school in order that God's Word would still be taught. While we may never be called upon to make this type of sacrifice, I wonder how many of us [including myself] have this kind of dedication or commitment level.

In addition to graduating from the Bible school, 17 of the 19 students have chosen to apply for Ministry credentials with Freedom Covenant Global Ministries, while 2 students have elected to join with other Christian ministries. This may not seem to be significant to some, however, due to the efforts of one faithful Man of God who took his commitment very seriously, there are now 19 new ministers who will be preaching and teaching the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, just think of the fruit [souls for the Kingdom] that will be produced because of this effort.

I would like to ask that each of our Freedom Covenant Ministers who read this article consider taking a few minutes to write Pastor Albert an e-mail and tell him how much we appreciate his dedication and faithfulness. His e-mail address is pastoraldt@yahoo.fr. In addition, if God moves upon your heart to do so, please consider sending a love gift for Pastor Albert to Freedom Covenant Global Ministries. In this day and age, we are always asked for donations for this or for that, and it is certainly difficult to give to every cause. However, I am asking that we each pray and ask the Lord for His will in this matter.

Please make your check payable to FCGM and send to the following address:

Thank you all for considering this request and thank you Pastor Albert for your faithfulness and commitment. May God richly bless and keep you and your family as you continue to serve Him. We love you and are praying for you daily.

Respectfully,
Bishop Sam T. Leigh
