A WORD FROM THE EDITOR - FIFTY FIRST EDITION

Welcome to this edition of the W.I.N. E-Mail Newsletter. Although this is the May 2nd edition, I am a week late in getting it sent out and for that I apologize.

As I write this article (May 9th), there are only 79 more days until our Annual Convention which is being held at Destiny of Hope Fellowship in Aberdeen Washington. It is our heart's desire that each of you have made arrangements to attend this year and be a part of what God is doing in and through Freedom Covenant Global Ministries and its Affiliates. For more information, you may call Pastor Dell Johnson at (360) 532-0994. Remember the dates again are July 27, 28, 29, 2007. Please come and be a blessing to us all.

I would like to remind all of our ministers that you are welcome to submit reports of what is happening in your ministries to the editor for inclusion in this newsletter. It is always encouraging to hear what God is doing through each of you, so please consider writing to us at win@fcgm.org.

Until next time...God bless each of you in all that you undertake!

In Jesus Name,
Rev. Sam T. Leigh

THE BOOK OF 1st THESSALONIANS - PART TWO

I. Devotional Reading

Each day, select a passage in God's Word. Talk with the Lord as you read the passage, then go back and find one or two verses which the Lord has impressed on your heart and meditate on them.

II. Bible Study

In this edition, we continue reading the book of 1 Thessalonians. This letter can be divided into two main sections - chapters 1-3 and chapters 4-5. In this study, we will read the first section - 1:1-3:13 - which can be divided into three subsections:

1. Paul's thanksgiving for the Thessalonians - 1:1-10
2. Paul's ministry to the Thessalonians - 2:1-16
3. Paul's longing to see the Thessalonians - 2:17-3:13

Read each subsection, answering for yourself the questions associated with them. Type out your answers or jot them down on a piece of paper and file them in your Bible for further study and meditation.

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

1. What 3 things did Paul continually remember about the Thessalonians? (1:2-3)
2. How did Paul's Gospel come to the Thessalonians? (1:5)
3. In what ways did the Thessalonians become a model to the other believers in Macedonia and Achaia? (1:6-10)

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:1-16

1. Why would some people think that Paul's visit to the Thessalonians was a failure? (2:1-2) (read again Acts 17:1-9)
2. How was Paul "like a mother caring for her children" ? (2:6-9)
3. How was Paul "like a father deal[ing] with his own children" ? (2:10-12)
4. How did the Thessalonians become imitators of Paul and the churches in Judea? (2:14-16) (note also 1:6-8)

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13

1. Why did Paul send Timothy to the Thessalonians, what was he afraid of, and why was he encouraged by Timothy's report? (2:17-3:9)
2. What did Paul keep telling the Thessalonians when he was with them? (3:4)
3. What was Paul's prayer for the Thessalonians? (3:19-13)

III. Memory Verse

1 Thessalonians 1:3; "remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,"

Here are a few suggestions that may help you to memorize your memory verses:

1. Ask the Lord to help you remember his Word (see John 14:26).

2. Use the version of the Bible you are most familiar with. What you normally read in your Bible is what you need to be memorizing.

3. Don't just memorize the contents of the verse; memorize its "address" (the verse reference) as well. You can do this by following this pattern: Step 1: reference; Step 2: verse content; Step 3: reference. Then repeat steps 1-3. Note that you are quoting the reference twice as many times as you quote the actual verse content. This gives the verse a clear "reference tag."

4. After you have read your memory verse out aloud several times, try going through your memory verse without reading your computer screen.

5. Look up your memory verse in your Bible. Look at its immediate context and read the verses that come before and after your memory verse.

6. Print out your memory verse or jot it down on a piece of paper. Take this paper with you when you go to work or do other daily activities. Meditate on the meaning of the verse throughout the day.

7. During your noon appointment with the Lord, take out your memory verse and go over it again. Talk to the Lord about what this verse means to you personally.

8. In the evening (at either your evening study or your evening devotions), see if you can quote your memory verse from memory. Then, without looking at the memory verse itself, see if you can find it in your Bible.

9. The next day, before you begin committing a new verse to memory, rehearse your previous day's memory verse and see if you can remember it (without cheating!).

10. Finally, at the end of the week (possibly on Sunday), collect all your week's memory verses, rehearse them and see if you can recall them without reading them. Spend a little extra time on any verses you have difficulty recalling.

11. Remember: Don't just memorize a verse. Put it into practice (James 1:22). It is not being able to quote a verse from memory that counts. It is His Word abiding in your heart that counts (John 15:7). When you actually apply a verse consistently to your daily life; that is when you truly know that verse!
